The Star Tribune is fighting like the Polar Bears

March 11, 2009

The Wall Street Journal recently made a list of the “Top 10 Most Endangered Newspapers.” Bad news for Minneapolis newshounds, The Star Tribune is number two. It is said that if the Pioneer Press folds, The Star Tribune may still have a chance at surviving. But right now, think of the Star Tribune as the polar bears and its advertising revenue as the melting glaciers. If ad revenue drops another 20 percent, The Star Tribune may be forced to either fold or go digital. And I don’t think Minneapolis can handle another bout of job losses.

I recently heard in a class that one theory on the death of newspapers is the increase in blogging. Some blogs are taking away hits from the website itself. Am I one of the causes of global warming in the newspaper world? Maybe. That being said, please keep reading my blog.

I don’t want to see the Star Tribune go under, so I thought I would provide a link so you can get yourself an update on breaking news in Minneapolis. Go read it.
