Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds has lupus.

June 17, 2009

The drug LSD was not the original Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. Lucy Vodden is. I guess that is debatable though. It was The Beatles and it was the 1960s.

The psychedelic song was influenced by John Lennon’s son, Julien Lennon, when he brought home a picture he drew in school around the age of four. Julien named the picture “Lucy in the Sky With diamonds,” after his friend Lucy Vodden.

Vodden was diagnosed with lupus about five years ago after suffering complications from other serious health problems.

Julien has been by his old friends virtual side via text messaging since he found out about her health condition. He has also been sending her gift certificates to a nearby gardening center which he knows is a hobby she loves.

Get well Lucy.

A day in pictures.

June 1, 2009

I have been very busy with my class and trying to see everything Paris has to offer in three short weeks. I only had class from 9-11 today and spent the rest of the day walking around the city, having lunch and working on my next paper. A bunch of us ate lunch at Les Deux Magots in the Saint Germain area, which is a famous cafe in Paris, known for its artisty clientele, including Picasso and Hemingway. I had the best salad of my life today. Fresh mozarella and tomatoes. I never wanted it to end.

But then it did…

My next stop will be Cafe de Flore next door for desert! After lunch I had a coconut and dark chocolate macaroon. Delicious. I am going to miss the food here so much when I head home.

Spent the rest of the afternoon listening to a couple musicains perform on a bridge over the Seine River and shopping around in Shakespeare and Company Bookstore.

Also saw this cute beagle on a small street on my walk home.

That was my lazy Monday in pictures. Unfortunately, the rest of my night will be consumed with paper writing. Tomorrow our class is going to Chartes for the day to see the Cathedral. It should be a fun day. I am going to Barcelona next weekend with 4 other friends and I couldn’t be more excited to see the city and eat the food!

A girl fell off her razor scooter and started meditating.

A little Paris and a lot of Bruges 063So I am in Paris right now. And basically, it’s a wonderful city full of beatuiful people and razor scooters. Today was the first day of the art history class. Everything is really interesting and everyday our lectures are at different sites. Today we were at The Louvre. Whiles there I wandered into the room with The Mona Lisa, but our lecture was in the gothic sculpture room and objet d’art section. We have a lecture later this week at Notre Dame. I am completely forgetting about the papers I need to be writing. It’s hard to study while you’re so focused on exploring a new city.

This weekend we went to Bruges, Belgium. We had originally planned to go to Brussels (thank you for the suggestion not to, Kelly. We loved Bruges!) The city was wonderful. It was so picturesque and quaint. I bought a lot of chocolate and ate a lot of waffles. I have been eating a few Croque Monsieurs in France and Belgium. They are basically a a ham and Cheese sandwich with an egg on top. Delicious.

Here is a picture from Bruges:

The only Michaelangelo sculpture outside of Italy. This is in The Church of Our Lady. Very cool.

Belgian Waffle--Yes that's chocolate syrup in that little dish.

Pictures do not do it justice--it's such a cute city!

I had my first experience in a hostel. It was exciting, but stuffy. I prefer hotels. The Flemish people were wonderful and so nice. We even started speaking to them in French thinking that was the language spoke. Whoops. It’s not. It’s actually Flemish. A nice lady corrected us and didn’t even laugh at us. Embarressing moment of the trip number 1.

France has been so fun. The people on the trip are great and I love the city. My friend Becca and her roommate Nicole came and visited on their excursions across Europe. Very fun. We ended out night with them drinking wine at the Eiffel Tower.

Here’s a few pictures from Paris:

This girl was hilarious. She was razor scootering (which everyone does here) around the Eiffel Tower, fell off and immediately started meditating. They are all so calm here.

A few of us just booked a trip for Barcelona for a couple weekends from now. I could not be more excited. I am also planning on going to Versailles on Saturday.

Gossip Girl is high.

May 19, 2009

All I can say is thank you Creators of Gossip Girl for finally making Chuck and Blair happen. It’s about time. Another thank you for pointing out the fact that Serena is completely irrelevant.

I died laughing when Lily brought a bag of Chuck’s pot to Rufus’ loft for them to smoke. And Rufus proposed to Lily, while high. How special.

Well Upper East Side, it’s been an interesting year. Have fun in Europe and The Hamptons this summer. See you in the fall. xoxo.

****Don’t worry, we won’t have to live without the Upper East Side in our lives this summer for too long.  The Real Upper East Side will be on Bravo starting in the middle of June on the show NYC Prep. Real life Chuck Bass. Be excited.

No more sleepless nights over flash & sheep…

May 12, 2009

After a semester full of Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop I finally published the website I have been working on. You can see it here. I am so happy to be done working with those Flash sheep…

The people that shaped our country married their cousins.

May 8, 2009

I found this funny list that compiles historical figures that have married their cousins. The only explanation is that they have to be Irish.

  1. Rudy Giuliani
  2. Jerry Lee Lewis
  3. Edgar Allen Poe — he doubles in the creepiness factor of this, because he fell in love in love with his cousin when she was 7 and he was 20. Incest. Check. Pedaphile. Check.
  4. Charles Darwin
  5. Albert Einstein
  6. Thomas Jefferson
  7. H.G. Wells
  8. Johann Sebastian Bach
  9. Franklin D. Roosevelt
  10. Jesse James
